Terms & Conditions
Last updated · 29 May 2026
These Terms govern your participation as a volunteer for START Summit x Hack 2027(the “Event”), organised by START Global (“we”, “us”), and your use of the Volunteer Platform at volunteer.startglobal.org (the “Platform”). By creating an account and accepting these Terms during registration, you agree to be bound by them.
1. Volunteer status
The volunteer programme is a non-paid, voluntary engagement. No employment, agency, or service relationship is created. Volunteers contribute their time to make the Event possible and accept that tasks are coordinated by the organising team.
2. Eligibility and registration
To register you must be at least 18 years old by the start of the Event, or provide written consent from a legal guardian if requested. You agree that the information you submit during registration is accurate and that you will keep your profile up to date until the registration deadline set by the organisers.
3. Account responsibility
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials confidential and for all activity on your account. Please notify us immediately at volunteer@startsummit.ch if you suspect unauthorised access.
4. Assignments and changes
Shift and role assignments are based on the preferences you submit, but are not guaranteed. The organising team makes the final allocation and reserves the right to reassign roles or shifts as operationally required, including during the Event.
If you can no longer attend an assigned shift, please notify your team lead and the organising team as early as possible so a replacement can be arranged.
5. Conduct on site
While volunteering you agree to:
- follow the instructions of your team lead and the organising team;
- treat fellow volunteers, staff, speakers, and guests with respect;
- refrain from harassment, discrimination, or violent behaviour;
- comply with venue rules, safety procedures, and applicable law;
- respect the confidentiality of any non-public information you encounter.
Serious breaches may result in removal from the Event and revocation of volunteer benefits.
6. Volunteer benefits
Benefits such as meals, T-shirts, certificates, and post-event gatherings are provided where announced. Travel reimbursement and accommodation are limited and granted on a case-by-case basis through the Platform’s accommodation-request flow. The organising team decides on accommodation requests at its discretion based on availability and need.
7. Use of image and likeness
Photographs and video may be taken during the Event for documentation and promotional use by START Global. If you do not wish to be identifiable in such material, please inform us in writing at volunteer@startsummit.ch before the Event so we can take reasonable steps to honour your request.
8. Liability
To the extent permitted by Swiss law, START Global is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your participation in the volunteer programme or use of the Platform. Volunteers are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate personal insurance (in particular, accident and health insurance) for the duration of the Event.
9. Withdrawal and termination
You may withdraw from the volunteer programme at any time by contacting us. We may also terminate your participation if you no longer meet the eligibility requirements, materially breach these Terms, or in other reasonable circumstances. On termination, the retention rules described in the Privacy Policy continue to apply.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms if operational details change. Material changes will be announced through the Platform or email before they take effect; continued use of the Platform after such announcement constitutes acceptance.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by Swiss law, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. Place of jurisdiction is St. Gallen, Switzerland, to the extent permitted by mandatory law.
